VISUAL BIOLOGY PROFICIENCY EXAMINATION
A Poem by Enald
As I first glanced at the test paper,
I skipped the other stages of grief
And went straight to acceptance,
Accepting the fact that I’ll have an extended duty.
But that doesn’t mean I’ll give up this career,
This dream of becoming an optometrist.
My goals and motivation will remain unwavering,
For these are just struggles and obstacles
That will help me grow to become a better me.
But still,
The test was so hard, it could break my bones—
Bones I don’t even know the types of
Flat bones, irregular bones, sesamoid bones?
Why does that only remind me of sesame?
It made me reflect: What have I been doing all my life?
Am I really that short on knowledge?
Have I drifted aimless, lost too long?
But truth cuts through my doubt’s sharp sting:
Perfection’s a myth, knowledge takes wing.
Not crammed in haste, but earned through time,
Each step a climb toward a summit sublime.
Cheers for finishing the first proficiency exam!
